Would you like to do something hands-on to help the homeless? If so, we have 2 great ways to get involved!
West Suburban Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) works to end homelessness in Chicago’s near-west suburbs. PADS offers emergency shelter for homeless men, women, and children at 12 rotating houses of worship every night through the cold weather months. For many years, our congregants have stepped up monthly (October – May) to make lunches and to cook and serve dinners to PADS guests.
Volunteers are needed on the 2nd Friday of each month to help make bag lunches for PADS guests. This is also a great service project for a group such as Men’s Club, Sisterhood, youth groups, scouts, or for a bar/bat mitzvah project. If you are interested in helping make bag lunches, whether as a one-time volunteer or on an ongoing basis, we’d love to have you. Contact project coordinator Laurie Myers, 708-524-3562.
Volunteers are needed on the 1st Wednesday of each month to make and serve dinner for the homeless at Grace Episcopal Church. Volunteers can make food and drop it off in the church kitchen and/or help serve the meal. Kids age 12 or older are welcome. Please contact us so we can put your good services to use! Coordinators are Clara Rubinstein, 708-366-7259, Carol Fred, 708-848-8016, and Janice Patterson, 708-220-8905.
