Sefer Haftarah Project

Thanks to a very generous donation from longtime WSTHZ members Hai and Carol Solomon, our Synagogue purchased a Sefer Haftarah scroll in 2010. Like a Torah scroll, it was handwritten on parchment by a scribe in Israel. The Sefer Haftarah scroll is different from a Torah scroll in that it has spaces for handwritten dedications and the vowels and trope are included in the text which will allow members of our Temple community to read from it with the same ease as reading directly from the Chumash or the Bar/Bat Mitzvah booklets.

The Sefer Haftarah scroll can be used throughout the year. We hope our young people and adults will read from the scroll on the occasion of their Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

The Sefer Haftarah scroll provides a wonderful gifting opportunity for our Congregation. While the Solomons  underwrote the purchase of the scroll itself, we will also need crowns, breast plate and a white mantle (scroll cover) to be used during the High Holidays.

Sponsor an entire book such as Bereshit or individual Haftarah. A personalized dedication will be written in the scroll for each dedication, in either English or Hebrew. Dedications can mark a special occasion, such as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, wedding, anniversary, birthday, or in remembrance of a loved one. There are two sponsorships for each Haftarah.

The proceeds from the Sefer Haftarah project will also help the Synagogue maintain our existing Sifrei Torah. The remaining proceeds will go to support the Rabbi Victor A. Mirelman Education Program, which includes our Religious School, Early Childhood, and Adult Education Programs.

Please join us in thanking the Solomons for their generous gift by sponsoring an inscription in our Sefer Haftarah.
