Three of the top kosher chefs in Chicago will compete head-to-head in a cooking challenge.  The competing chefs, Ayelet Danino from Bites of Pleasure, Glenn Simon of PaNosh and Steven Greenberg of Chicago TailGators are donating their time and talents for a fundraiser being held at West Suburban Temple Har Zion. Each of the competing chefs will be assisted by Temple members who are themselves accomplished home chefs.

Each chef will be cooking one appetizer, one fish entrée and one dessert from a mystery box of ingredients.  Their dishes will be judged by renowned chefs John Shields and Karen Uhre, a husband-and-wife team who both worked at Charlie Trotter’s. Currently, Chefs Shields and Uhre are working on two new restaurants that will be located in the West Loop and planned to open in mid-spring.  Our third celebrity judge will be Oak Park Village President, Anan Abu-Taleb.  Abu-Taleb is the owner of Maya Del Sol, a popular Nuevo Latino restaurant located in Oak Park.

Guests will sample a wide array of heavy hors d’oeuvres and scrumptious desserts provided by each of the chefs’ kosher catering companies and will be asked to vote for their favorites.

In addition to the eating and competing, there will also be a wide variety of items being sold at a silent auction.  Items being offered for sale include theater tickets, artwork, jewelry and restaurant gift certificates.

Guests at the Iron Chef Kosher Challenge and Silent Action, are invited to make a donation of at least $36 per person.  There are different donation levels, identified by chef titles, starting at the top with Executive Chef ($180 per person), followed by Sous Chef ($118 per person), Pastry Chef ($72 per person) and Line Cook ($36 per person).  The Temple is also accepting donations of $18 or more from supporters unable to attend the event who are delineated as Home Cooks.  With the highest level of donation, guests will receive a complimentary event apron.

You can register for the event online, by email at office@wsthz.org, or by phone at 708-366-9000.

Silent auction items are being accepted.
